Anne Marie Chalmers - Intern

Anne Marie Chalmers is a master’s level counseling intern at Colorado Christian University and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Anne Marie chose to attend a Christian counseling program not only because she desires to grow her faith, but to also learn how to better serve people from a variety of religious backgrounds. Even when the labels are the same, faith and religion can look quite different for different people. Anne Marie aims to be highly aware of the ways her faith influences her perspective and work and to use that awareness to be more sensitive to the ways her faith can best serve her clients. Whether it’s by using her own faith as a source of energy and joy to serve, walking alongside clients as they explore their faith and spirituality, or weaving faith into every fiber of the session, she will use her faith to serve you where you are at. She will work with you to make a safe space where she can walk alongside you in healing and growing mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and socially.

Anne Marie currently works at a non-profit where she offers behavior coaching to children and teens in group homes. Her previous experience as a writing teacher in a women’s prison inspired her to explore both the education and mental health fields by working in behavioral therapy clinics with children on the spectrum and teaching English in Japan for two years. God pulled her heart towards counseling as a way to serve a bigger variety of people, but her passions for other cultures and working with those with traumatic backgrounds have remained. She serves through a trauma-informed lens and is currently in the process of being trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Anne Marie is under the direct supervision of Candace Cook, MS, LPC, LAMFT, an approved Clinical Supervisor under the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. She works out of the Tempe office on Mondays and Saturdays and the South Scottsdale office on Tuesday evenings.
