Brea is a master’s level counseling intern at Christian Counseling Services. Her higher education began at Grand Canyon University (GCU) with a bachelor’s in counseling with an emphasis in substance abuse. Currently, she’s in the graduate program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University (LU) online.
Brea grew up in the Midwest and participated in competitive dance throughout her youth. After graduating high school, she left the Midwest behind to start a new life at GCU in Phoenix. Her time at GCU was spent involved in serving at soccer and refugee ministries, leading prison ministry, and establishing GCU’s dance ministry. The heart of dance ministry is to teach children at GCU’s Learning Lounge dance education, how to worship God through dance, and how to honor Him with their bodies. She aspires to train in dance movement therapy (DMT) and somatic therapies, as God has instilled in her the importance of setting one’s body, mind, and spirit on Him. She currently has stepped away from dance as she rehabs from a hip surgery but still is glorifying God through her rehab process. She enjoys physical activities such as the gym, trail running, and hiking. She enjoys all things crafts, journaling, crotchet, making jewelry, and baking, along with spending time with her husband, family, and friends.
Brea has experience in leading bible studies & psychoeducational groups for halfway house programs such as Alongside Prison Ministry. She also was employed at an all-girls qualified residential treatment program (QRTP) aged 11-18 as a youth care specialist. During this time, she provided guidance in the girls’ occupational, social, and home lives. Brea is in the process of completing the Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy from the Humanitarian Assistance Programs (HAP). She is currently under supervision of Elijah Steinbrecher who is a LMFT and clinical supervisor through Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
Brea is a Christian and believes in the power of blending scripture and evidence-based practice in counseling. She believes in the holistic view of the client through a biopsychosocial lens coupled with integrating the body, mind, and spirit. Brea has found interest in the third-wave of CBT which pairs well with EMDR and focuses on values, flexibility, mindfulness, and awareness. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 shares that because of Jesus on the cross, we now do not need to be within a temple to experience His spirit; rather, God has established His residence within believers. Because of the Spirit’s active presence, it gives us the courage to explore feelings without being overcome by them. This provides Brea with confidence that we are not overcome with suffering, and that counseling provides a client with guidance that produces healing, hope, and resilience.
Brea’s hours are Wednesday and Fridays from 1:30PM-8PM & Saturdays from 8AM-1PM. She works out of the South Scottsdale and Tempe locations.
